Ocean Voices gets a mention in Parliament

On June 19th, I had the incredible honour of being recognized in the New South Wales Parliament by Tamara Smith for vital work of Ocean Voices in a written community recognition statement. This acknowledgment was recorded in the NSW Hansard, a historical document that chronicles the proceedings and discussions that take place in parliament. In her statement, she commended Ocean Voices for empowering young people in the Northern Rivers to have a voice and hope for the future.

Tamara acknowledged my role as a youth leader, saying, “Monet is an inspirational young leader in both her school and her community.” Hearing that made me proud, but I know I’m just one of many young people striving to make a difference. It’s vital that we are listened to and given opportunities to act.

Ocean Voices has taught me the importance of protecting our precious marine ecosystems, and I’m grateful to be part of a community that values youth leadership. This recognition fuels my passion and commitment to environmental advocacy, and I hope it inspires others to join us in this vital work. Together, we can make a significant impact on our environment and create a sustainable future for all.

The community recognition statement can be accessed online in the link below, the entire statement was also sent to me in the post and the full transcript is in the photo.
